Katie RedfordView Profile

I am Katie Redford, a U.S.-based artist in Wisconsin, best known for my metalwork and sculpture. I am inspired by everyday life. I enjoy disrupting the mundane through the use of familiar objects and materials to draw in the audience -  only to spoil their expectations, generally through some level of silliness. While sculpture has been the main format I work within, I have branched out into more narrative mediums, including illustration and comic books, all pertaining to world building, working through prosaic, and commonplace themes in a fantastical, extra terrestrial environment.

I have been working with metal for 17 years and have experience with a wide range of materials and techniques. I practice the craft in my studio and teach both children and adults, from elementary level - including summer camps - to continuing education to non-traditional education at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum. This training has informed my presentation strategies, allowing me to offer dynamic and engaging instruction that is entertaining and informative.

I received a Master of Fine Arts from the State University of New York in New Paltz for metalsmithing and have frequently participated in national metalsmithing conferences and events since 2003.
