Hi, I’m Menglin! I am currently a student at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. My major is Interior Architecture & Design, and my minor is Communication Design. I grew up in Guangdong, China, and moved to the U.S. with my family at the age of 17. I am so excited to be able to teach on the Play in the Cloud platform and work with students. It allows me to explore and embrace two kinds of cultures.
Teaching art that relates to Chinese culture is a beautiful way to introduce my culture to other people. As a person who experienced and lived with two cultures, I believe that exploring art from all over the world will ultimately guide the artists to develop their own style. For children who just started their journey of making art, experimenting with different methods and cultures will also help them to develop their interests.
I started my journey of learning art when I was 7, and have learned both Chinese painting and Western painting. When it comes to making art, I also love to combine characteristics of different cultural styles into my artwork. My favorite material to work with is watercolor. Its texture contains the characters of both Chinese painting and Western painting, which reflects the style of my artwork.
I am now living in Chicago. My favorite thing I love to do in Chicago is going downtown and enjoying the beautiful view of the city and the lake.
