About this Workshop Description In this Workshop you will learn to make a fun, beginner-level origami. I will teach you to make a carp fish origami, which is easy, but super fun and cute. We will also create an original chopstick and use carp origami for the cover. In Japan, "Children's Day" is celebrated every year on May 5 and we decorate carp flags outside the house and in our public places. Tradition says that they bring luck and good fortune to the children inside. Koi fish, or carp, are believed to be strong, spirited fish, and are revered for their determination in fighting as they swim upstream and through powerful waterfalls. These carp streamers, or Koinobori, symbolize the desire for children to become brave and strong individuals. In Japan, children make this craft to celebrate Children's Day, but we make this any time as it can also be used as a chopstick cover. It is a fun and enjoyable project, and I am excited to make it with you and teach about origami and Children's Day in Japan! Please note: This Workshop is recommended for children 8+ as it requires a certain level of dexterity. Younger Learners may need adult assistance.
