Hi! I’m Simona. I'm a crafter, art teacher, proud mother, and cat lover. I've been passionate about art for my entire life and I love using my hands to create beautiful pieces of art. My preferred ways of artistic expression are traditional macrame and painting. I also enjoy being out in nature and discovering more of my country's breathtaking landscapes, which later inspires the pieces I create.
I started crafting as a child, and of all the crafts I came in contact with(knitting, crocheting, or sewing), traditional macrame spoke to me the most. Nothing inspires or relaxes me like losing myself in knots and the way they weave together to create beautiful pieces.
I use nature and traditional symbols in my pieces. Trees, birds, and flowers are prevalent in all Romanian crafts and I like working them in my designs. Traditional macrame is hugely popular in Romania and a very common pastime during winter months.
I prefer to work with natural materials. I use jute mallow for thread, and wood for other decorations, such as beads. Traditionally, macrame was done with Romanian hemp, which is a local type of hemp. It has since been replaced with jute.
Romania has a long history of myths, traditions, and artistic expression. Over the few thousand years that can be traced back, we've been exposed to many cultural and linguistic influences that led to a very unique blend of customs and to an interesting people. The landscapes are just as mesmerizing, from the mountains and pristine forests to the Black Sea and the Danube Delta.
