Description
In this Workshop, Learners will make and test a mini bow and arrow. This Workshop is recommended to children ages 10+ with adult supervision/assistance required, as Learners will be working over an open flame to create the bow.
The bow and arrow is one of the oldest weapons, originating over 70,000 years ago. It has been used all over the world since ancient times for wars and hunting, and more recently for the sport of archery. While it is a very basic weapon, it is one that requires skill, both in its creation and its use.
Probably the most famous bows, due to the infamous Robin Hood are the long-bows. These were used for thousands of years and only the very strong could wield them. They were the main weapon other than swords, pikes and axes. These bows were so strong that they could pierce armour.
I was very young when I made my first bow and arrow. I am a Sherwood, so my brothers and I saw being able to make and use these as quite important. We feel this connection due to the folklore of the Sherwood Forest. Join me in this Workshop, where we will learn more about the adventures of Robin Hood, as well as the use of the bow and arrow in Thailand where I live today, as our bow and arrow will be made using bamboo instead of wood.
I look forward to sharing this long tradition with you!
