Join me as we explore the doll making traditions of Slavic culture.

A tradition of doll making is actually something you can find in all parts of the world.  People used to make dolls out of any materials available. You can find dolls made of wood, wool, straw, and textiles, etc.  In Slavic culture, we have our own kinds of dolls, and the ones I like best are rag dolls.

Traditionally, these dolls were made of old clothes, linen, wool, cottonwool, and threads.  Dolls were made for kids to play with, to decorate the house, to make a wish, to protect her owner from bad energies, and to bring good energies and luck.  They can be a great present for someone you care about.

These kinds of dolls have been a part of Slavic culture for many years.  My grandmother has said that people made these dolls as far back as when she was a little girl.  I made my first rag talisman doll about five years ago. It was a Money Lady - a doll for prosperity.

In our workshop you will make your very own lovely little angel doll.  Children under the age of 10 would likely benefit from having an adult or older sibling participate along with them.  Making the doll requires the ability to tie a knot, or having a helper who can tie a knot.
