About this Workshop

Description

In this Workshop, Learners will make three different styles of rings using the wire wrapping technique-a simple ring, a goddess ring and a princess ring.  I'll teach you simple techniques and styles that you can use to create HUNDREDS of different rings in various shapes and sizes, using special tools for jewelry making.  By the end of the Workshop you will be able to create a variety of wire wrapped rings in your own style, with your own flavor, with confidence.

This Workshop encourages Learners to use their imaginations and think outside of the box.  By using simple jewelry making techniques, we learn to take risks, enhance confidence, and tap into our creative sides to explore possibilities.  The skills presented in this Workshop encourage each Learner to build on concepts, which include problem solving, develop their artistic expression, while also learning about different cultures and traditions.

I am a self-taught wire wrap artist and learned to make jewelry through trial and error.  I did take a basic jewelry class at my local recreation department so I could learn the jewelry basics and from there I explored many different jewelry making techniques on my own.  I've been a jewelry artist for almost 10 years and have taught in person jewelry classes to children and adults.  I look forward to sharing my passion for jewelry making with you!

Please note: This Workshop is recommended to ages 10+ as it requires a certain level of dexterity.

Hello Learners!  My name is Angela and I am so excited to teach you how to make jewelry!  Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I have worked with children for over 18 years in a school setting. I love to bake, my favorite color is purple and my favorite PBS cartoon is Arthur.  Yes, I still watch cartoons, lol!  When I'm not working, I like to take dance classes like Zumba and line dancing.  I also enjoy drawing, playing the piano and creating awesome dance routines with my grandchildren, niece and nephews.  We have lots of fun in my family!

I live in Wisconsin and the best part about that is we get to experience all four seasons, sometimes all in the same day, lol.  There is so much to do here, even in the winter months.  A few of my favorite activities are going to the ice sculpting shows, on sledding adventures, to the outdoor ice skating rinks and the Jingle Bus. The Jingle Bus is a huge coach bus that takes you around downtown Milwaukee to show you all the Christmas decorations, there’s even a stop for mailing your letters to Santa!

My favorite holiday is Christmas.  Every year my sister and I would make special ornaments for the tree, and holiday decorations for the window.  My mother would pop popcorn so we could string the popcorn together as garland for the tree.  We would listen to Christmas music while we worked and later gather together as a family and watch a Christmas movie.

I have always enjoyed being creative.  I think my favorite memory is of the time my son and I made a pirate ship out of popsicle sticks and construction paper.  The idea to create the pirate ship came from me wanting to teach him that you can create anything you want in life with a little imagination, dedication and focus.  It was one of the best times ever and I hope he passes that same lesson on to his children.

I love teaching jewelry making because I want to inspire others to explore their creative sides in ways that are easy and rewarding.  Gemstones and wire are my favorite materials to work with. I enjoy teaching others about the cultural facts and stories of how gemstones are used and the beliefs behind them.  I like working with wire because it’s flexible and you’re unlimited in the ways that you can create with it.

I'm excited to learn more about you too!  Hopefully we get a chance to create and chat together.  See you soon!
